Carrie is a licensed professional counselor who works with individuals across the lifespan (ages 5-65) struggling with anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, trauma and adjustment issues, interpersonal conflict, grief/loss, gender issues, women’s issues, self-care, and life transitions. Carrie uses a person-centered, strengths-based, and collaborative approach to therapy and integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), somatic approaches, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), solution-focused brief therapy, and motivational interviewing to assist clients in their journey of self-discovery and growth. Carrie is trained in EMDR and is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Carrie focuses on providing a warm and welcoming environment in which clients can feel validated and heard.

Education

Carrie Shimkus received her undergraduate degree (Bachelor’s in Psychology) from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and her graduate degree (Master’s in Counselor Education) from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
